Henry Bassey on Climate Leadership, Superhero Students & Building GreenHubAfrica

How storytelling, school kids, and the 3 P’s are reshaping climate action in Nigeria

When you think “climate leadership,” you might picture policy reports and panel discussions. But Henry Bassey (HB) sees something different kids with capes, schools buzzing with green energy, and communities taking bold action, one recycled bottle at a time.

In a powerful interview on Champions of Change with Pamela Egbo, the Founder & CEO of GreenHubAfrica shares how his journey from marketing to movement-building helped shape one of Africa’s most vibrant youth climate platforms.

Climate Action Starts with Communication

With a background in brand storytelling, HB realized that climate messaging in Africa needed a serious makeover. He calls communication the “first frontier” in driving change—because if people don’t understand climate issues, they can’t act on them.

At GreenHubAfrica, storytelling isn’t fluff. It’s fuel.

Climate Action Superheroes: Not Just Cartoons

One of GreenHubAfrica’s most exciting projects is the Climate Action Superheroes, built in partnership with the UN.

Instead of dry lectures, students meet eight superhero personas—like Recycle Ranger, Energy Expert, and Water Wizard—each tied to real-world climate missions.

Through comics, storybooks, workshops, and school competitions, students become doers, not just learners. Over 5,000 Nigerian kids have already taken part—organizing tree-planting events, cleanups, and waste-reduction campaigns.

The Power of the 3 P’s

Henry Bassey breaks down GreenHubAfrica’s model into three essential principles:

  1. Purpose – Building a movement rooted in climate justice
  2. People – Prioritizing youth, educators, and communities
  3. Partnerships – Working with the UN, Sterling One Foundation, IHS Nigeria, and others to scale impact

Real Talk: It’s Not Always Easy

Our CEO doesn’t sugarcoat it. Funding is limited. Climate literacy gaps are real. Scaling takes patience. But the wins are just as real:

  • 5,000+ students empowered
  • A superhero-themed climate curriculum
  • National partnerships making local impact possible

What’s Next?

HB believes the future of Nigeria’s climate space will be built on:

  • Digital tools
  • Youth-led innovation
  • Green entrepreneurship

Platforms like WEDex will continue to amplify local solutions and spotlight new voices in Africa’s sustainability conversation.

“The climate crisis isn’t coming. It’s here. But so are the solutions and they’re growing in classrooms, communities, and conversations every day.”

Final Word

HB didn’t just build an organization…he  built a movement.
